Compostable Quiyú packaging

Did you know that compost is the best way to use organic waste for farming?

Organic residues placed directly on the plant affect the balance of the soil, generating compounds that affect plant growth and degradation microorganisms compete with the plant for nitrogen. These drawbacks are avoided by using waste decomposed by microorganisms.

Composting is the process of decomposition or putrefaction of organic materials under controlled conditions, which improves their characteristics as soil fertilizers.

Compost is a rich source of mineral and organic nutrients, so it plays an important role in maintaining soil fertility and sustainable agriculture. In addition to containing nutrients for the plant, it improves the biological and physicochemical properties of the soil. Some of its benefits are:

1) Increases water retention capacity, as well as resistance to drought, disease, and toxins.

2) Increases the crop´s nutrient absorption capacity.

3) It favors the microbial activity and the dynamics of the nutrient cycle.

These advantages are evidenced by reducing cultivation risks, higher yields, and lower expenses in inorganic fertilizers for farmers.

Household organic waste can be used for composting, which reduces the amount of garbage in landfills. The waste materials that are considered compostable are: fruit and vegetable residues, eggshells, plant pruning remains, dry leaves and branches, cardboard, paper, among others.

Have you heard about biodegradable-compostable packaging?

Biodegradable and compostable packaging is an environmentally friendly alternative since it can be used, together with other waste, in the composting process.

Quiyú was designed to be an environmentally responsible product. That is why it has biodegradable internal packaging and an external recyclable one.

The internal packaging complies with the OK Compost Home standard from TÜV Austria, in addition to the EN13432 and ASTM D6400 industrial composting standards. Below we share a link where the biodegradation process of the packaging is explained in an illustrative way, which depends on the compost conditions and can take a maximum of 16 weeks (environmental conditions).

The outer packaging material, aside from being recyclable, is FSC certified, indicating that the material comes from responsibly managed forests.
